At tPoint, we take our customers’ data very seriously. All data is held in a fully managed data centre in Canary Wharf, London, UK. The data centre is built and managed to the highest standards - termed as N+1 in the hosting industry, which means all systems have a failsafe for their failsafe (much like the approach taken for airplane safety).

For example, the site requires a main generator and back-up generator so in reality it also has a 3rd generator to protect the back-up. This approach is repeated throughout the centre to provide world class redundancy, resilience and security. tPoint are able to provide levels of data storage, availability and security normally only available to multi-million pound tier one organisation.

Core aspects of our Infrastructure are:

  • Accessibility The use of a managed hosted solution to our data storage in conjunction with the applications that we supply enables real time access to data from anywhere in the world through secure internet access.
  • Connectivity The Data Centre has multiple redundant backbone connections supplied by various connectivity companies using separate physical pipes in to the location to avoid any one single point of failure. The site uses resilient fibre connectivity through an IP backbone which provides 120 separate points of connectivity.
  • Secured Data Centre Environment The data centre security process is highly rigorous and involves layers of precautionary measures. Each floor is secured with multi-tiered security access using Biometrics, Pass Key and PIN to ensure unauthorised access is denied. Each cabinet is also restricted to Pass Key and PIN authorised engineers. The centre is monitored 24/7/365 using CCTV technology.

Management
The data centre is managed and monitored 24/7/365. The systems are monitored using state of the art management systems from IBM with full incident reporting.

Multi-phase UPS/Generator Power Supply
The Data Centre’s power supply comes from multiple suppliers through different physical connections to ensure a constant supply with no single point of failure. In the improbable event of a complete power outage, the Data Centre is protected by multiple generators and all servers are connected to enterprise standard UPS which clean the flow of power as well as ensuring 100% uptime.

Fire Suppression
Fire detection and suppression is handled with VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) ensuring any threat of destruction by fire is caught and extinguished before any damage can occur.

Virus Protection
All email in and out of our systems is monitored by MessageLabs market leading virus and spam protection services. All data added to our systems is virus checked at multiple levels using real time updated virus data to ensure complete protection.

Data Back-up
All data back-ups are managed within the data centre.

Enterprise Routers
Each incoming connection passes through enterprise level Cisco routers which ensure high availability.

Load-balanced Enterprise Firewalls
The routers feed the traffic to load-balancing firewalls which can act independently or together to repel unwanted traffic or attacks. Only expected data is allowed access to the internal network. If a firewall physically fails the other firewalls take on the load to ensure no loss of service or performance.

Tier 1 - Web Servers
A series of high powered, high availability web servers in a ‘blade’ environment, designed to share load and automatically fail-over ensuring maximum uptime and performance.

Tier 2 - Database Servers
Data from each database is shared with other servers in the cluster to keep data through-put to a maximum. Reads and writes from any one server is instantly replicated to all other servers keeping all servers up-to-date, and the data always available.

Tier 3 - Storage Area Network
Data is backed up and stored in rotation with robotic tape devices to ensure data can be accessed from almost any point in time. Sets of tapes are also stored off site in a secured fireproof location for extra resilience.
